West Coast MCC, in cooperation with Fresno Pacific University, is offering an institute for young people seeking to serve a global church. The Globalization, Anabaptism and Peacemaking (GAP) Institute offers a multidisciplinary study of the impacts of global interconnectedness by reflecting on effects on communities through international and local case studies. The GAP Institute requires teachers and learners alike to wrestle with the complexity of global integration from theological, economic, sociological, cultural, ecological and political perspectives and to use the tools of each discipline to analyze effects in Central California and beyond.
The Summer Service Program is for young adult constituents between the ages of 18-30 from diverse ethnic backgrounds who desire to serve with a church or service agency in their home communities for a short period of time, generally 6 to 10 weeks. Participants work in a variety of areas including leading and staffing summer camps, tutoring school age children, summer GED programs, and community outreach efforts. This grant funded program, supported by WCMCC and local churches, helps young adults develop leadership skills and build relationships with other workers and leaders. Attendance and completion of the GAP Institute is required for all Summer Service workers.
